About Vivian Plantation

Owned and operated by three generations of the Grose family, Vivian Plantation has been in operation since 1947. During this time,

20 acres of sandy, otherwise non-arable land, have been reclaimed.
Presently, 30 acres of the property are devoted to wooded area.

During our 74 years of operation, more than 60,000 trees have been harvested. Initially trees were sold wholesale, however, since 1965 when the Grose family started the "harvest your own" programme, and Vivian Plantation sells wholesale, as well as retail.

We are open, however, the plantation will be taking a sabatical and will be closed for tree harvesting in 2021 owing to a convergence of natural factors. There was a very late frost in the spring that damaged new growth, and as well, since we do not use chemicals on our trees, there was damage from the gypsy moth caterpillars that were so widespread in Ontario this year.

We have secured larger than usual quantities of pre-harvested trees, and while disappointing to everyone, this is an unavoidable situation.

Be our guest!

Christmas memories start with the tree, but no Christmas tree outing would be complete without fresh apple cider, a wagon ride, and the chance to warm yourself by the fire.

Bring the entire family, but please be sure that the four footed members remain on leash and under control at all times. This will ensure that everyone who comes to the plantation can enjoy their visit! Vivian Plantation is a natural setting

We have tables in the plantation where you can bring your lunch and enjoy a winter picnic in our natural setting.

For those who are young, or young at heart, a tractor and hay wagon regularly transit the property, before, or after you choose your pre-harvested tree from the shed, adjacent to the shack.

As you warm yourselves beside the log fire, roasting marshmallows and sipping hot chocolate or spiced apple cider, the staff will shake any loose needles from your tree, bale it and help you carry it to your vehicle. Twine is available for you to use to tie your tree on top of your car if needed. A tree bag is also included – and all of this at no extra charge.

And don’t forget to make a stop to snap a family photo at our self-portrait location to preserve the memory of your outing at Vivian Plantation.

An outing to Vivian Plantation is truly “Where Christmas Memories Begin”
